What's going on with the Owren Family Website ?
April 26, 2001
Again, Thanks to all who have shown a positive and enthusiastic response!
I think once this site gets going it will be something for all to enjoy.
I'll keep updating this page as I go so if you're wondering
what's going on with the website check here and if you have any
questions and ideas please send them along.
If you notice any (or should I say "many") mistakes please let me know.
I usually do this stuff after work between 1:00 and 3:00 AM so things
don't always end up as I think they do! This is also a large learning curve for me
in that I'm in the process of learning to write web pages.
OK ... What am I working on ?
I've done a lot of web surfing looking at other family sites and come
up with many ideas. I've taken some of those ideas and tried out a few on my computer
and am now in the process of putting a few web pages together. Although not completely
finished I will be putting bits and pieces on the site very shortly.
A Newsletter ... I'll have that up this weekend (April 28th) and it will be rather
sparse with information. Hopefully, with your help, it'll pick up and we'll get a full
few web pages of "stuff" to do it up right in June.
My plan is to post a newsletter around the 1st of each month. I forget where I read it
but a "Family Newsletter" should be similar to a Newspaper. Pick up the daily
paper and relate that to your family. The good parts anyway!
Over time I hope to be mailing a paper copy to any families that don't have internet access.
Genealogy ... With all the great info Lorayne sent I've started putting together
the Owren "pedigree", if you will, in cyber space. I'm pleased with it so far and have ideas
on how to better it as I go.
I'll be putting an information "flyer" on a web page that
can be printed. I hope all of you can print it, make copies for other family members, fill it out
and send it back to me. Eventually, everyone that does this will get a small web page here,
and it'll keep all the great work that Lorayne did going and make it easier for future generations.
You can also e-mail the info to me.
E-Mail - "yourname"@owren.net ... If anyone wants an email account (free to family, naturally!)
at Owren.net let me know. With this account (owren.net) I have "unlimited" email accounts.
This is web based (can be viewed from the web) or pop3 (outlook express or other email programs) mail
I make no guarantees as I am usually very skeptical when something says "unlimited"
but if you want to check it out, let me know.
Just send me the user name you would like. (example: mine is "johne") I'll set it up and email you back with
a password that you can change. User names will be given on a first come, first served basis.
EXTRA! ... Over time and as the family history, news, photos, anything
and everything becomes available, I hope to put all this info on CD's. This will take a while,
but eventually all family can have a copy to keep and pass down. Maybe I've got the bug now
(as to genealogy) but having visited a lot of other family websites I think it's great to
pass along the family history generation after generation. BUT ... it doesn't happen on its own!
All the best, John
